Elisabetta Benassi was born in 1966 in Rome, Italy, where she continues to live and work. Benassi creates densely emotive installations, photographs, performances and videos. Her work is rich in literary, cinematographic, psychoanalytical, and political references. Her videos in particular suggest two self-conscious and conflicting visions of the world: one that is rational and technological, which contrasts another, more amorphous, dream-like and emotional. The protagonists of Benassi’s work tend to be androgynous, anxiously formulaic doubles or twins: symbolic figures that animate a reality at once shocking and visionary…
