I received my BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1984. At R.I.S.D.
I focused primarily on traditional figurative painting. The works of
Thomas Eakins and John Singer Sargent played a major role in the
development of my styles.
I work in two methods, first my studio work. I use color theories
related to that of the French Impressionists. I developed my color
theory in order to express a mood by using a complex series of colors to
formulate the final hue. I work in a series of glazes – about fifteen
to build up the layers to create the final color. The Dutch masters were
most known for their glazing techniques. Second, my plein air style. I
work out on the scene using my same color theories as in the studio,
however I use much larger brushes and layer the paint "lean to fat" in
about 7 layers, leading to a freer expression.
