Filho de mãe romena e pai indo-português, Pepe Diniz nunca viveu em Portugal mas tem por língua o português. A infância e a adolescência passou-as em Espanha, em Moçambique e na África do Sul, tendo estudado fotogra?a, a partir dos 24 anos, na Suíça (no Institut de Photographie de Genève) e em França, onde chegou a ser fotógrafo da Cinemateca Francesa (Paris, 1972-1974). Trabalhou depois em Bruxelas e em Nova Iorque, cidade onde fundou, logo em 1975, a Bleecker Gallery e que escolheu até hoje para viver e continuar a fotografar…
