Melissa Chimera, artist and art
Born 1972, Birth Honolulu, Hawaii.
The artist lives and works in Makawao, Maui.

Honolulu native of Lebanese and Filipino ancestry. She studied Natural Resources Management at the University of Hawai`i, while mentoring under Hawai`i painters Peggy Chun and later George Allan and Tony Walholm.  She currently exhibits in Hawai`i and abroad.  Her work is in national and international private and public collections.

“Most think of the plumeria flower as uniquely Hawaiian, not realizing it is from another place. I want to showcase the forgotten kama’aina (islanders) as a biologist might see them under a microscope in all their variation and uniqueness. You will never see these species outside of Hawai`i. And we may never again witness their beauty if we don’t protect them in our lifetime.”
