Ana Hatherly#
One of Portugal’s leading artists and poets and has exhibited extensively around the world. Her work is based on continuous movement between the drawn and the written, which results sometimes in abstract calligraphic works and sometimes in visual poetry. Ana Hatherly
Hatherly initiated her career in literature in 1958 with the book: Um Ritmo Perdido and began her research into the field of concrete poetry a year later, beginning to work with experimental poetry in 1965. The exhibition Anagramas (Anagrams), presented in 1969 at the Quadrante Gallery, marks the beginning of her incursion into the domain of the visual arts.
